This summer spadrilles get glamurous. When Valentino put them on the catwalk made with lace opened the fantasty door for that Cinderella shoes. The espadrilles will never be again that poor child that we wore with any pretension in summer. They have become “the sustainable” shoe thanks to their manual production with natural products. Having in mind the local tradition and heritage here it has become as well an opportunity for exportation. New York, London, Berlin and Paris want to wear the best espadrilles this summer and they do with the tag “made in Spain”. Here we have selected some of the most interesting espadrille adventures:
The collective adventure by seven Spanish brands has started with an espadrille’s capsule collection. Ciszak Dalmas, Ioewyou, La Casita de Wendy, peseta, Poti Poti, Silent Ventures and Steve Mono launched that first proposal in Poti Poti’s berlin shop. Handmade in La Rioja, Spain, by Calzados Laro, the collective wants to promote the “collaborative production”. The Peseta’s espadrilles costs 39 euros, the La Casita de Wendy’s ones 33 euros and Poti Poti model are 45 euros.
Mint & Rose
Valentino was not the only luxury brand to take espadrilles to the next level. Chanel did it as well. And the young Spanish brand Mint&Rose offers us a No Logo version of them in several colors. Now they are on sale and you can buy them just for 59,90 euros.
Of course, talking about espadrilles and exclusivity we can’t forget Castañer, the pioneer brand which introduced for the first time espadrilles in fashion world. They sell their designs in the best luxury shops of the world. As an example, these cute bi-colour espadrilles for the parisian L’Eclaireur. Of course, the exclusivity has its costs: 122 euros.
Lika Mimika (no aptas para veganos!)
We have discovered Lika Mimika through the indie fashion magazine Refinery 29. After to define them as “the cutest leather espadrilles we have ever seen”, they wondered if this Made in Spain espadrilles would be the New Toms. We love the ones with soft skin inside, a good fashion investment if you have in mind that next seasion will be everything about furry things. Ah! And they sell some of their designs in Browns, one of the most exclusive stores in London.
From Alicante we share this fantasy designs from a brand that we could define as the Charlotte Olympia of the espadrilles. Her summer collection is full of espectacular wedges made with jute. If your feet need high class espadrilles you must know that actually the online shop have all the shoes at 50%. For example the shoes of the pictures are at this moment at 73 euros.
Creative director Anna Laub is behind this brand that designs in London and produces in Spain. Made by leather and suede Prism combines sophistication and functionality in an interesting choice of fabrics. We love the gold suede, leopard print suede and ponyskin espadrilles. From 145 pounds.
Flamingos is a French brand proud to made their espadrilles in Spain and love them because they are “fun, flat and in the mood.” For this summer we have fall in love with Dania that they sell in Barneys, now at 70% off discount (79 euros…not so bad…).
