Alba Yruela has shared with “it a personal selection of images, some of them unpublished, while we talk about what photography means to her. This young lady from Barcelona started shooting everything around her just for herself, with no intention of publishing. “I just wanted to photograph my experiences and the people around me at that time.” And even though she felt she could not generate any interest beyond the personal, as the need and the pleasure of shooting with the camera became larger, she reached the public and media recognition (published in Vogue or Vanity, among others) and the unknown.
I try that the places, the moments and the people I photograph are portrayed in the most transparent, honest and personal way as possible.
The intimacy of her work takes the form of photo journal in which her world is the protagonist and very often herself the model. She stays true to the principle that fascinated her to capture her own experiences, as a witness of the emotions that were generated in the past, and her pictures get to transmit the spleen of the instant, without artifice. “I keep doing what I was doing since I started and I try that the places, the moments and the people I photograph are portrayed in the most transparent, honest and personal way as possible.” Her work documents faithfully what is happening in her personal universe and then she lets each person to interpret it in their own way. “I like each person to do their personal reading of the images, as the same picture may produce different feelings in everyone.”
She’s also interested in observing what other artists do (her favorites here) and in addition to her own experiences are her great source of inspiration. Now she plans a joint showing in Barcelona with her admired Rafa Castells, one of her essentials to whom she has often posed, and thinks she’d love one day to portray without limits collections of some clothing brand. From here we imagine it as a job so interesting that we can only hope that it happens.
