I am interested in the pause that is generated when observing all the small things that surround us, and, thereby, in giving them a new sense of importance; the beauty that resides in simple, everyday things.
The question why a picture gets to you sometimes remains unanswered. Lourdes Cabrera’s work is located precisely in that space where words fail. Her intimate and delicate work testifies her clear and conclusive gaze. However, you never know where that gaze might want to take you. But what we do know with certainty is that her photographs seduce you.
After graduating in Biology, Lourdes opted for photography and never looked back. Her work has been published, among others, in El País Semanal, Rock de Luxe and S Moda, and it was selected for Photoespaña Discoveries in 2009. Here she answers four simple questions and shows us one of her favorite pieces.
What drew you towards photography?
The desire to see the world through my own lenses.
An image is perfect when…
…you don’t have to explain it.
Who do you admire?
My boyfriend, for of his perserverance and honesty. Yasunari Kawabata, because he is capable of moving you in the most humble way. Javier Vallhonrat, for of his consistency and wisdom.
What projects would you like to do in the future?
I am currently working with nature, and man’s relationship with it. In an upcoming project I would like to explore age and the passage of time.
